UFC 271 is a great card, elite middleweights Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson, heavyweights with dynamite in their hands Derrick Lewis vs Tai Tuivasa, and two of the best middleweights in the world fighting once again, Israel Adesanya against Robert Whittaker. In this blog, I’ll be breaking down each fighter and predicting who will win.

Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson

Jared Cannonier had competed in 3 divisions and had TKO’s in all of them, you can expect lots of power from Cannonier. Derek Brunson is an amazing wrestler. Both fighters are top 5 in the Middleweight division, whoever wins this will get a title shot. Jared Cannonier is great at striking and Derek Brunson is terrible at striking all around, if Brunson doesn’t wrestle, he’ll get knocked out, but if he does wrestler he’ll be able to shut Cannonier down. This fight will be a 50/50 depending on Derek Brunson to wrestle.

Derrick Lewis vs Tai Tuivasa

Tai Tuivasa will be getting a chance to get into the top 5 of the heavyweight rankings if he beats Derrick Lewis. Derrick Lewis is coming off of a knockout win against Chris Daukaus in the first round. Tai Tuivasa is coming off of 4 knockout wins against Stefan Struve, Greg Hardy, and Augusto Sakai. Both of these guys could put anyone in a coma if they land clean, Derrick Lewis knocked Curtis Blaydes out so bad, that Blaydes didn’t wake up until he was in the ambulance. Derrick Lewis has an odd style, he can be losing the whole fight until the last minute, in that last minute, he lands the shot that puts anyone out. He’s a fighter that can be pressured easily and land shots, you can’t really call him a counter striker because he barely lands anything, but when he does land it’s dangerous. Derrick Lewis also has the most knockout wins with 13 knockouts and 21 in his career. Tai Tuivasa has 12 knockouts out of 17 fights. Tai trains his striking at Tiger Muay Thai with world-class strikers and his wrestling at American Top Team. I’ll be surprised if Tai Tuivasa tries to wrestle because wrestling does not work on Derrick Lewis, he just stands up. It’ll be a striking match-up, definitely won’t go to a decision or on the ground, someone is going to get knocked out.

Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker 2

The last time these 2 fought, Israel Adesanya was the one who left victorious along with a belt. Until Jan Blachowicz wrestled with Adesanya, no one knew his weakness was grappling. Robert Whittaker even said he wanted the knockout and to be aggressive. As a result of being aggressive, he got knocked out, Izzy is an amazing counter striker, he could probably make someone hit themself without touching them. In the first round, it went ok for Rob until he got dropped at the end of the round. After he was dropped it was pretty much wrapped up. In the second round, Izzy caught Rob with a hook that led to him finishing the fight. Israel Adesanya is coming off 3 middleweight title defenses and Rob is coming off of 3 wins against top middleweights. Any outcome of this fight will be shocking, Israel could potentially become the greatest middleweight ever, or Robert Whittaker can shock lots of people if he finishes Israel Adesanya. My pick is Adesanya, the reason being is because I think he’s just the best middleweight in the world, but if Robert is able to wrestle with him for the whole fight, I might change my mind.
