In this blog, I will break down UFC 270 is headlined by the UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou vs Interim Heavyweight Champion Ciryl Gane. The Co-Main Event is a trilogy between UFC Flyweight Champion Brandon Moreno vs number one Flyweight contender Deiveson Figueiredo. Following, is Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson, Movsar Evloev vs Ilia Topuria, and Greg Hardy vs Aleksei Oleinik.
Greg Hardy vs Aleksei Oleinik
Greg Hardy is 7-4 and Aleksei Oleinik is 59-16. I’m pretty sure that speaks for itself but you never know, it’s MMA. Both fighters are unranked in the Heavyweight division and on a losing streak, Greg Hardy is coming off of 2 knockout losses, and Aleksei Oleinik is coming off 2 Technical Knockouts and a decision loss. In this fight, I expect Oleinik to easily win even at the age of 44. Greg Hardy doesn’t have much skill, he just has power, Oleinik has dangerous submissions and has 46 submissions. Oleinik will want to get this fight to the ground and submit him, I think he’ll do it easily.
Movsar Evloev vs Ilia Topuria
Undefeated Ilia Topuria will get his shot at a ranking in the Featherweight divison against another undefeated featherweight who is ranked at 13. Ilia Topuria is 11-0 and an all around fighter. He has good striking and dangerous ground game which helped him have a 91 percent finish rate. Movsar Evloev is a wrestler who is 15-0 with 7 finishes and 8 decisions. This fight can be a good fight on the ground and on the feet. Evloev will either get a decision win or get subbed or knocked out. Someone’s 0 has got to go.
Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson
Jared Cannonier had competed in 3 divisions and had TKO’s in all of them, you can expect lots of power from Cannonier. Derek Brunson is an amazing wrestler. Both fighters are top 5 in the Middleweight division, whoever wins this will get a title shot. Jared Cannonier is great at striking and Derek Brunson is terrible at striking all around, if Brunson doesn’t wrestle, he’ll get knocked out, but if he does wrestler he’ll be able to shut Cannonier down. This fight will be a 50/50 depending on Derek Brunson to wrestle.
Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo
This will be a trilogy/rematch since it’s 1-0-1 with Brandon Moreno having the one win. Their first fight resulted in a draw due to Figueiredo having too many fouls and getting points deducted. In their second fight, Moreno had all the control, he dominated this fight. In round one, Figueiredo was dropped by a jab and controlled for most of the fight. Moreno had taken the back of Figueiredo and got the rear-naked choke to become the Flyweight Champion. A problem that Figueiredo has is the weight cut, he cuts about 40 pounds to make the flyweight limit, it’s why he has so much power but it’s not good for his health in the future. I think in the second fight, the weight cut was the reason Figueiredo was so hesitant. Moreno will probably do the same thing he did in their rematch and defend his title successfully.
Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane
These two previously worked together at the same gym and sparred, Ciryl Gane will be much more technical especially after getting to spar with Ngannou, but the same goes for Ngannou, he will be a lot more patient for Ciryl Gane to throw anything. In Ngannou’s rematch for the title against Stipe Miocic, he looked better than ever, he showed improved takedown defense and way better striking. Ciryl Gane has looked technical for all of his career, he’s about 250 pounds but moves like he’s 170. Ciryl Gane made easy work of all of his opponents with his excellent striking and ground game. In this fight, I expect Gane to dismantle Ngannou with leg kicks, jabs, and his movement. The way for Ngannou to win this fight is to be patient but not too patient, don’t overswing, and get the knockout.
