UFC 270 is scheduled for January 22nd, the rumored arena is in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the three rumored bouts for UFC 270 are Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson, Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo for the Flyweight Championship, and for the headliner of UFC 270 Francis Ngannou vs Cyril Gane for the Heavyweight Championship.

#3 Middleweight Jared Cannonier vs #4 Middleweight Derek Brunson

Number 3 ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier is coming off of a decision win against #9 ranked Kelvin Gastelum. Derek Brunson is on a five fight win streak with his latest victory against #8 ranked Darren TIll. What I have observed from their last fights is, Jared Cannonier has great stand up game and grappling, and Derek Brunson has terrible striking and striking defense but is one of the best wrestlers in the UFC. For Jared Cannonier to win this fight, he’ll have to stay standing and defend every takedown attempt Brunson goes for, if he does that, he can get an easy knockout win and a shot for the title. For Derek Brunson to win this fight, he’s going to have to dominate with his wrestling, take him down and throw ground and pound for the entire fight.

FW Champ Brandon Moreno vs #1 FW Deiveson Figueiredo

This fight was originally scheduled for UFC 269 but was replaced by Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. These two have faced each other twice with the first fight being a draw due to fouls from Figueredo, and in the second fight Brandon Moreno controlled the entire fight to win via RNC in the third round. Brandon is a great fighter, he’s great at striking, wrestling, and BJJ. Brandon Moreno is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. Deiveson Figueredo is a wrestler with good powerful striking and is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. A problem in the second fight for Deiveson Figueiredo is the weight cut, he cuts from 168 to 125, you can see how it affected him when he wasn’t throwing that many strikes, was very hesitant to throw, and was dropped by a jab but that jab from Moreno was great. In this fight, I expect Figgy to miss weight and most likely lose again in any way Moreno wants.

HW Champion Francis Ngannou vs HW Interim Champ Cyril Gane

The newly crowned Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou is set to make his first title defense against Cyril Gane who defeated a basically downgraded Francis Ngannou, Derek Lewis. These two previously worked together in the same gym where they sparred with each other. The HW Champion’s first attempt to capture gold did not go so well, he went against one of the greatest Heavyweights of all time and in that fight, he tried to violently swing with no technique to knock Stipe Miocic out as quick as he could. As a result, he gassed out quickly and was thrown around by Stipe’s wrestling. In Francis Ngannou’s second attempt at obtaining gold went great for him, he was patient and calm, in the second round he landed a stiff jab that pushed Stipe against the cage, Stipe then clipped him and charged back in thinking he stunned Ngannou, Ngannou responded by throwing a short left hook that put Stipe out cold. In the fight that earned Cyril Gane a title shot was the fight against Derek Lewis. Derek Lewis is basically a version of Ngannou in his first fight with Stipe except wrestling doesn’t work on Lewis. Cyril Gane being the technician he is, made easy work of Derek Lewis by avoiding his power bombs, TKO’ing him, and quadrupling the amount of strikes Lewis landed. In this fight, I think Cyril Gane will chop Ngannou’s legs, outstrike him, and win by decision or maybe a stoppage.
