This 2021-2022 free agency so far has been one of the craziest in NBA history! This off season over 85 players were traded or signed to different teams which is equal to almost 20% percent of the entire league that will be playing in new jerseys and different cities. This means that a lot will probably change next season.
New York Knicks
A team that has made some moderate improvement over this off season is the New York Knicks. The New York Knicks Last season had their most success in half a decade by making the playoffs they made sure they keep their key player to their success last season by resigning their breakout player Julius Randle who made major improvements last season so much so he was awarded the most improved player award and got on the All NBA 2nd team as well as becoming an All Star for the first time. Along with resigning Julius Randle the New York Knicks resigning point guard Derrick Rose they made 2 Solid free agent signings acquiring former All Star point guard Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier. With these improvements to the New York Knicks, I think they should be expected to make it to at least the 2nd round of the playoffs this season.
A team that I think has gotten a lot better is the Chicago bulls so far they have acquired former All Star shooting guard Demar DeRozan and promising young talents in Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to pair with their great shooting guard in Zach Lavine making the bulls a very likely playoff contender if they play well.
Unlike the Chicago Bulls, the Portland Trailblazers have seemed to have gotten worse this season losing Power Forward Zach Collins, Center Enes Kanter and, Former All Star Carmelo Anthony while signing only signing lackluster players to replace them. The only way the blazers are making far in the playoffs this season is if their Star point guard Damian Lillard has the best season of his career.
This offseason so far over 3 and a half billion dollars have been spent on new signings and contract extensions I find this number really surprising because this free agency is class of players is pretty weak compared to other years. This off season a ton of money was spent on contract extensions for various players like Chris Paul who was signed for 4 years and 120 Million dollars. His contract will keep him on the Phoenix Suns until he is 40 years old. Another player who got a massive extension is Jimmy Butler who signed a 4 year 184 million dollar contract to stay on the Miami Heat because this contract will keep him there for 4 years in the final year of his contract when he is 36 he will be making 52 million dollars that season. This upcoming season he will be paid more than All NBA players like Luka Doncic and Julius Randle who in my opinion are much better than Jimmy Butler.
Put down in the comments what you think of the moves so far this off season.
