Hello! This post will be about Thanksgiving and Indigenous people. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by English colonists (pilgrims) to celebrate their first successful harvest. Many Native Americans do not celebrate Thanksgiving because it is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people and theft of their land. The genocide was caused by diseases that were carried by the colonists and the colonists killing them. To some Native Americans Thanksgiving is a day of mourning. It is a day of mourning because it celebrates the arrival of the colonists.
If you want to honor Native Americans on Thanksgiving you can :
- Learn the history.
- Celebrate Native Americans
- Understand why Thanksgiving is a mourning day for many.
- Donate to charity.
It is important to know that Thanksgiving can be a mourning for many Natives and you should listen to them. That is it for this blog so I’ll be ending it here, bye!
