Today students are completing Checkpoint 3. Next week, we’ll start on Checkpoint 4 which is to create an outline for one of the Final Products. It is imperative that students have Checkpoints 1-3 completed by Monday, if they’re still behind.
These first three checkpoints have students practicing three skills that are scored in the Final Products: Theme, Point of View, and Word Choice. These checkpoints also have students write a poem of their own using different formats.
These three student-written poems are necessary for the Final Products. Completing Checkpoint 4 next week allows students to go to break knowing that when they return and jump back into the project, they’ll have the majority of their work done. Their essay will be organized and planned, so they’ll be able to concentrate on the oral presentation and their poem analysis over two weeks. The Final Products will be submitted Jan. 18 and scored in time for grades to be entered on Jan. 21.
